What Causes Voice Disorders?

Voice disorders can stem from a range of factors including:

  • Overuse or misuse of the vocal cords (e.g., excessive yelling, speaking loudly, or improper vocal techniques) 

  • Environmental factors like exposure to irritants, allergies, smoking, and air pollution

  • Physiological, psychological, or neurological conditions such as:

    • Vocal Nodules​

    • Vocal Fold Paresis or Paralysis

    • Muscle Tension Dysphonia

    • Paradoxical Vocal Cord Dysfunction

    • Presbyphonia

  • Emotional and psychological factors (e.g., stress, anxiety, and tension)
